Eurovision 2026 Absent from Kazakhstan and Faroese Television Schedules
As Eurovision 2026 approaches, viewers in Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands face a lack of coverage on their public broadcasters, raising questions about future participation.

With the 70th Eurovision Song Contest set for May 12, 14, and 16, fans in Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands have received disappointing news: their local broadcasters will not air the event. In Kazakhstan, Khabar has omitted the contest from its programming, while the Faroe Islands’ Kringvarp Føroya (KvF) is similarly absent from the schedule, leaving viewers seeking alternatives.
Kazakhstan has remained on the perimeter of Eurovision excitement, participating in Junior Eurovision since 2018 but yet to make its debut in the main competition. Although rumors of a senior participation persist, the cost of entering has been cited as a significant barrier, even with the country's associate membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
On the other hand, the Faroe Islands, which is not an EBU member, has historically struggled with Eurovision participation. While KvF broadcast the contest in 2025, its coverage has often relied on agreements with Denmark’s broadcaster DR, limiting independent engagement. This inconsistency raises concerns about the islands' long-term ambitions to take part as a separate entry.
Despite these setbacks, KvF has expressed support for future participation and acknowledges that EBU membership is imperative. However, stakeholders are aware that this process necessitates a robust commitment and substantial financial backing over several years.
As Eurovision 2026 draws nearer, the absence of scheduled broadcasts in these regions prompts reflection on their journeys within the Eurovision sphere. Further developments will be closely monitored as fans hope for progress in their representations.
