Events nationwide will gather citizens to celebrate shared values, democracy, and cooperation. The European Union institutions will open their doors to the public, showcasing their importance in shaping everyday life and future policies.
In Brussels, the European Parliament will kick off events at 10:00 CEST, featuring a performance by the Parliament Choir followed by an opening ceremony with President Roberta Metsola. Citizens will be able to participate in quizzes, presentations, and family-friendly activities.
Other institutions like the European Council and the European Commission will also welcome visitors for guided tours in Brussels, giving insights into key decision-making processes and ongoing EU projects. The Commission will feature interactive thematic spaces, highlighting democracy, climate action, and social justice.
Significant attractions include the European Central Bank's participation at Frankfurt's Europa-Fest, where experts will engage with the public on various topics including the euro and banking innovations related to digital currency.
The European External Action Service will organize an engaging program at its headquarters, inviting visitors to explore EU diplomacy through interactive exhibits and cultural performances representing its global partnerships.
In addition to events in Belgium, Luxembourg will host cultural programs and information stands as part of the celebrations. The insights and activities will be complemented by the opening of the EU Parliament in Strasbourg later in May.
A recent Eurobarometer survey highlights a sense of optimism among EU citizens, with a substantial majority recognizing the benefits of EU membership and viewing the union as a critical pillar of stability and security amid global challenges.
Local events across all EU Member States, as well as activities organized by EU delegations worldwide, will enhance the celebration, showcasing European unity far beyond its borders. Iconic landmarks globally will be illuminated in EU colours, symbolizing the alliance.
This year's Europe Day reinforces not only the cultural diversity and heritage of the EU but also its collective mission to safeguard democracy and foster unity among its citizens.
